Meru virtualized wireless LAN infuses new life and predictability into essential healthcare applications.
Liberty Health had installed a wireless network in the emergency department of its Meadowlands Hospital in Secaucus, which was used for patient registration. However, the network lacked the reliability required for emergency care applications.
“We wanted to fix that situation, as well as add new wireless applications that require seamless roaming.”
Verna and his team began looking for an alternative solution, but most of the wireless systems he evaluated could not assure the reliable coverage that his applications needed.
“Of the wireless vendors we looked at—including our incumbent switch and router vendor—only Meru offered to install a pilot network,” he says. “The weekend that the Meru virtualized wireless LAN went up was the first time that we received no complaints from the emergency department. Our coverage issues had gone away.”

Telecom Expense Management (TEM) can significantly reduce your telecom expenses. It offers a range of hard and soft dollar savings, and can also improve productivity of TEM-related business processes. Countless analyst reports and industry articles point to the benefits of TEM for managing the growing cost and complexity of today’s corporate communications networks and services.
One way to harness the power of TEM is to license the software, install it on your equipment, and management and operate it yourself. This approach requires investment in hardware, training, and ongoing administration of the system – in addition to license fees.
Another, increasingly preferred way to reap the benefits of TEM is through business process outsourcing (BPO). BPO allows you to implement a fully-functioning TEM solution without sinking capital into software and resources, and without distracting your staff from their core responsibilities. TEM BPO offers a number of advantages over licensed, on-premise solutions and hosted systems with limited managed services. Read more »

The Universal Service Fund (USF) is a government administered program to support the provision of telecommunications services in rural and high cost areas, low income consumers, schools, libraries and healthcare facilities nationwide. All telecommunications service providers contribute to the federal universal service in an equitable and nondiscriminatory manner. On June 30, 2008, the Federal Communications Commission issued a ruling stating that audio conferencing fell into the same rules and regulations as telecommunications as it applies to the assessment fees for the USF. The FCC ruling applies to all conferencing services providers (CSP) in the United States. Read more »
