5 Tips for Hosting More Effective Video Meetings

video

A video meeting is just like a live meeting - almost. If you’re used to conducting live presentations, you are already well on your way to becoming an effective video communicator. The techniques that ensure powerful live presentations and dynamic meetings also work for video communication. However, video meetings and presentations do require some minor adjustments.

Here are a few tips to keep in mind:

Be more than a talking head: Your video system gives you the ability to share multimedia source materials such as Web sites, spreadsheets and other presentations. Taking advantage of this feature will make your video meetings more engaging and effective.

Look ‘em in the eye: Eye contact is important in any presentation. In a video environment, eye contact comes from looking toward the camera - not the display. Case Study: Hudson Advisors

MPLS Services

Hudson Advisors was faced with faltering network performance, chronic billing problems and unsatisfactory customer service from its previous Tier 1 service provider’s MPLS network. With its three-year service contract coming to an end, the company decided to seek a better solution. The firm needed a reliable global partner who could effectively provide seamless network services across all its international locations. Specifically, the company was looking to improve network availability, utilization and flexibility while ensuring a better customer experience and simplified billing for its global footprint.

MASERGY’s technical team reviewed Hudson’s wide area network (WAN) redesign in detail, discussed and understood bandwidth needs and future expansions and suggested a simple phased plan for network migration of all its offices to the MASERGY network.

MASERGY implemented its fully meshed VPLS solution with Voice quality of service (QoS) at all of Hudson’s domestic and international locations and Video QoS at two locations with Telepresence video conferencing systems. The firm also added MASERGY’s Network Analyst service for in-depth network monitoring, visibility into application performance and reporting capabilities.

Wireless LAN Operations: From Reactive to Proactive

Wireless

Enterprises everywhere are turning to wireless networks (WLANs) as their primary network to provide users mobility, increase productivity and lower infrastructure cost. The recent ratification of 802.11n has added fuel to that fire, by providing most users a faster connection over the air than they can get plugged in at their desk. Though enterprises were originally driven to wireless by the need for mobility, today they are now driven by the lower installation costs of wireless compared to new fixed desk ports. IT departments are finding they can leverage the pervasiveness of Wi-Fi enabled laptops, Netbook PCs, and other devices to keep cost down and increase employee productivity. With this convenience, WLANs are beginning to edge out Ethernet as the preferred user access mode. No one wants to plug in anymore.

The adoption of WLAN for primary access transitions business critical applications from wired to wireless, introducing a growing number and variety of applications and devices that rely on wireless for connectivity. Hence, reliable user connection is critical and application performance is paramount. This transition creates a new challenge for IT managers to ensure that all users can connect and all applications work reliably, as required, all the time, and over large distributed WLANs…
